All citizens in our country should be treated equally in every respect. Whether it is your freedom of speech, religion, views on government, access to work and housing and many others you deserve fair treatment. Each citizen of Lowell has an important say in the workings of the city and how their tax dollar is spent. If elected to city council, I will strive to listen to the citizens and guide the city for their benefit. I will listen carefully to all opinions before making any decisions and won’t automatically be against something that is new.
First off a definition: Bias is a “disproportionate weight in favor of or against an idea or thing, usually in a way that is closed-minded, prejudicial, or unfair. Biases can be innate or learned. People may develop biases for or against an individual, a group, or a belief” (source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bias).
The opposite of bias is fairness and open-mindedness. In all aspects of my life (hopefully including city council) I desire to be fair. All human beings have bias, but I promise to do my best to set aside bias and consider each decision and each citizen’s views fairly.
