Promise 20: Work as a Team with the Mayor, City Manager, Council, and City Staff

I saved one of the most important promises until the end, as I hoped that the marquee would not have just my name this week, but also include Mike and Jim. This promise is all about teamwork, working together, no lone rangers.

I rented the sign in early summer, the day that I was accepted as a candidate. My plan was to ask Mike and Jim if they would join me in sharing the sign, and they happily agreed. I have attended most every council meeting for 4 years, and Mike and Jim (and the entire council) have impressed me with careful consideration of the issues and dedication to the citizens. I haven’t always agreed with the votes, and I made that known at the podium, but I know that our council and city manager are working for our best interest. By working as a team they have moved Lowell in a wonderful positive direction.

Teamwork is essential in most things in life, including leading a growing city. There are many demands on the council, city manager, staff and finances. We all have different opinions. To be successful, there needs to be a lot of discussion, hard work and often compromise. I have led and been a part of many product development engineering teams over the years, and it is only by working together that we make progress. “I did this” or “My way is the only way” has no place in a great city council for the people. I promise to always work as a team in the council and with the city manager and staff.

My 21 Promises are done/explained and it has been a fun road. Some people have told me that they looked forward to the new one each week (thanks to Jody who was the first one and encouraged me). If you have read them you know that I desire a seat on council only to help the citizens. FYI my website has had 1493 views, 806 visitors and 24 comments this year. Thank you to all that have taken an interest. All the best, Eric Bartkus
