June 17, 2024 Riverside Drive Work Session

-Council is hosting a special meeting at 5:30pm to discuss possible changes to Riverside to reduce speeding and increase pedestrian safety. I live across from Sabor Mexicano and daily see drivers moving too fast. Cars trying to back from parking and pedestrians get frequent honks, as I have on riding my bicycle in that area. The residents on Riverside have been penalized by drivers trying to bypass the light at Main and Hudson. I don’t know what the best solution is, but am glad we are discussing.

Some changes to consider:

1)Divide Riverside at Elm. South of Elm vehicles would travel one-way to the north (current design). North of Elm vehicles would travel one-way to the south.

2)Use a dead-end at Suffolk and Foreman to eliminate through traffic. (from Kimball Dlouhy)

3)Return Broadway to a two way street. Make Riverside one way southbound. This may require reworking the Riverside/Main intersection slightly to give a right angle for right turns. Probably reducing the width of the egress opening to a single lane to prevent right hand turns onto Riverside from Main Street, making it more of egress for a parking lot rather than a street. (from Bob Pfaller)

4)Block Riverside north of Lowell Light and Power

5)Speed Bumps
